Purple Herons from Kinderdijk

Boezems van Kinderdijk

This area is situated close to Kinderdijk famous for its windmills. The 340 hectares wetland hosts one of the most important Purple Heron colonies in the Netherlands with more than 100 breeding pairs.

The birds breed in a wet reedbed managed by the Rivierenland water management authority. The wetland is designated as a Natura 2000 site.

It is important for many more marsh birds such as Bittern, Little Bittern, Savi's Warbler and Bluethroat.
